Sunday Selections: Back to the Future in the DeLorean
G and I went to a friend's 4oth birthday party last night. The theme was the 80s, and the birthday boy, who's a pop culture aficionado as well as an active member of the comics / action figurine / collectibles world, had arranged for a guy he knows to come along with his fully tricked-out Back to the Future DeLorean.
!!!!!!
The photos aren't great photos - they're all phone ones - but honestly, who cares? You can see the details and that's all the counts.
The level of detail was astonishing; my mind boggles at the amount of loving work that has been put into this vehicle. Even the brand names on the parts were right, and the flux capacitor actually pulsed. A-MAZ-ING.
So i sat in the DeLorean and remembered the movies and felt like a teenager again and it was great.
Other people are sharing photos at frogpondsrock's Sunday Selections today. There are some goodies; well worth a look!

So, what year would you have set it for?
ReplyDeleteOoooo, that's a toughie! Well, if science fiction has taught us anything, it's that crossing your own timeline is dangerous +++, so something in the deep past, I think. Lots of parts of ancient history interest me - Babylon in its heyday, or ancient China, or the Toltec empire. (NB: Would also need a Babel fish so I could understand what was going on, and an invisible shield against a rapid spear in the back :-)
DeleteWow. I hope the birthday boy had a great night.
ReplyDeleteOh, he did! It was a costume party and he was a perpetually grinning Han Solo, and his wife a radiant Princess Leia :-) (There were also 7 Blues Brothers, 2 Tom Cruise in Risky Business people, 3 Madonnas, a Kermit the Frog, 2 Indiana Joneses, a Freddie Mercury and a Gandhi, among others!)
DeleteThat is quite impressive :)
ReplyDeleteNow, what is that on your t-shirt? I was thinking it said something about MacGyver? Sounds lie you had a great night :)
The shirt says What Would McGyver Do? and has pics of a toothpock, a safety pin, and chewing gum :-) I was bereft of costume ideas so I went for the referential minimalist costume - McGyver was a classic 80s show after all ...
DeleteIt looks like there's no room in that car for anybody but the driver. He's done a great job on it though.
ReplyDeleteYou're dead right - there wasn't! It looked brilliant though.
DeleteOH.MY.LORDY!!!
ReplyDeleteThat must have been just awesome. The only thing better would be a TARDIS. With Ten in it, of course.
AND I covet your T-shirt desperately.
T shirt was a Christmas prezzie a couple of years back from hubs. I think he got it from Cafe Press. He also gave me s shirt that year that reads "I'm a Wordsmith - Like a blacksmith, but without the tools and fire and stuff", in recognition of the first time I completed Nanowrimo. He's good at picking gifts :-)
DeleteHahaha, how great is that car!?!? Love your T-shirt and I'm still thinking about what McGyver would do with those things ;-)
ReplyDeleteBuild a kickarse 80s costume out of chewie and a bent paperclip, no doubt :-)
DeleteThanks for blogging - great daylight pics! (We didn't arrive till after dark.) Nice to discover your blog!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes from the Madonna in pants and the Tom Cruise sans pants :)
Hi Anna! Nice to hear from you. You and James made a great pair in your outfits :-)
DeleteAAAAAAHHHH!! I LOVE IT!! And I'm envious of you getting the chance to sit in it.
ReplyDeleteAmazing - fancy having the will, determination, time and money to do something like this? But I bet he can hire it out quite a lot to fans of the movie!
Yes, my understanding is he does lots of the fairs / shows as well. (And yes, sitting it was teh bomb :-)
DeleteOh wow, that is awesome. If only Michael J Fox came with it :D
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
Deletewow that's amazing!!!
